Analysis of a Music Magazine poster
In order to create a realistic music magazine poster I have decided to draw inspiration by looking at how other institutions have constructed posters to advertise singers/bands.
The example I am using was taken from Kerrang! magazine and is a poster used to advertise Anette Olzon, lead singer of the band Nightwish.
The photograph taken is a long shot and is effective as it shows the full body of the singer and not simply the face and facial features. This choice of camera shot, alongside her smile and provocative stance, works effectively to entice a male audience. Olzon was the only band member chosen to appear in the poster, possibly because if the other band members were included it would draw the focus away from her and the appealing manner used would be less effective.
The background behind the photograph is cream coloured wallpaper which creates a domestic feel to the image. The logo at the top left corner of the poster is of Kerrang! logo, which refers to the institution that provided it.
The mise en scene of the photograph are iconic of the intended market audience. Olzon is wearing stylish clothing that is typical of rock fans or musicians. Her tattoos are also displayed so that they are noticeable within the shot. Tattoos are another iconographic feature of rock/metal fans.
